ISPAB-NIX PoP established in Rajshahi division
Staff Correspondent
An ISPAB-NIX regional point of presence (PoP) has been established in Rajshahi division to ensure faster, uninterrupted and secure internet services across the country, while making connectivity more affordable for marginalised communities.
The initiative has been implemented through a joint collaboration between the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB)-Internet Exchange Trust and the Internet Society.
The establishment of this NIX is expected to enhance interconnectivity among internet service providers (ISPs) and ensure reliable internet access for underserved populations. In addition to ISPs from all eight districts of Rajshahi division, Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN), International Internet Gateways (IIGs) and both public and private institutions will be able to avail the facility.
With access to the regional PoP, ISPs will now be able to deliver high-speed, uninterrupted, secure and cost-effective internet services to their customers.
ISPAB-NIX has been serving as a central hub for improving internet service quality in Bangladesh while also contributing to foreign currency savings. Previously, ISPAB-NIX PoPs have been established in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna and Mymensingh divisions. By enabling local exchange of domestic internet bandwidth, ISPs are reducing their reliance on costly international bandwidth.
There are also plans to introduce caching services at the new PoP, which will allow for greater bandwidth distribution at lower costs for end users. Improved internet performance is expected to drive innovation, entrepreneurship and economic growth in sectors such as e-commerce, media, education and healthcare. Ultimately, the initiative is set to play a significant role in the socio-economic development of marginalised communities.
Although regional ISPs have already begun connecting to the Rajshahi NIX PoP and providing services, its formal inauguration is expected to take place next month.
