Shaila Sharmin re-elected as APNIC Policy SIG co-chair
The 60th Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC) Conference held in Vietnam from September 4-11 held elections for the posts of Chair and Co-Chair of the APNIC Policy Special Interest Group (SIG). Nepal’s Vikram Sheresta was elected as the Policy SIG Chair, and Bangladesh’s Shaila Sharmin was re-elected as the Co-Chair. Shaila Sharmin was re-elected by getting 111 more votes than her opponent Christopher Hawker. Shaila Sharmin received 182 votes, and Christopher Hawker received 71 votes.
Shaila Sharmin is a well-known name in the Internet community in the Asia-Pacific region. Professionally, she works as a cyber security architect at Prime Bank PLC. Her expertise in cyber security has significantly contributed to her reputation, making her a pivotal figure in discussions surrounding internet governance and security. As she steps into her new term, Shaila aims to focus on enhancing collaborative efforts among member organizations to address emerging challenges in the digital landscape. She has over a decade of experience in the ISP, enterprise, and banking sectors.
